A spirited gallery of spectators watched an intense finals match from which Silvio Grancourt of Weird Entertainers, and Benjamin Beaufort and Santiago Mayor of St. Kilda emerged as the winners over Sebastiano Federico of St. Kilda, Aimeé Obers of Dove and Jean-Claude Dufroux of St. Kilda. During the battle Silvio and Jean-Claude put on a dazzling duel of deadly accurate "bombs," while Aimeé had the crowd cheering on its feet with some sensational pointing on a difficult terrain. Placing third in the Principale were Aileen and Rick Hebblethwaite and David Walker. The Consolante division was won by Jacqueline Nemorin, Danielle Grancourt and Annick Masson of Weird Entertainers. Placing 2d in the Consolante were Peter Cuthbert, John Cook and Michael Abson and in Third Place were Mary Deakin, Rod Deakin and Geoff Davis of Long Beach. Barbara Lahm, Narelle Cook and Jenny Cuthbert won the Sociale division. While not breaking into the winners' circle, teams composed of Alec, Bill and Irene and of Jean-Marie, John-Paul and Hilkka were the only Camberwellers to survive the elimination and compete in the Principale playoffs. It was a bright, sunny day (heating up to 28 degrees) and the rain held off until after the last boule was thrown, so we were weather-lucky once again. Special thanks go to Terry Barter sister for generously helping Margaret Barker with the sausage sizzle. |
Thanks to Terry, Richard and all others who help organize and run the competition. Well done!
